From a young age I always wanted to understand how the body worked and what was under the skin.
I qualified as a physiotherapist in 1985 aged 20, at the beginning of training to be a physiotherapist you must first learn ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ inside out, every joint, bone, nerve, vessel, every muscle, it’s origin and insertion and it’s action.
After qualifying I immediately became interested in the treatment of Neurological patients because it demanded a deeper knowledge of normal movement and the CNS. I also completed an MSc in the Science of Exercise and Nutrition during my time living in Asia and worked in preventative health. In 2003 I attended my first yoga class, fortunately I experienced a physically challenging class under the instruction of a good teacher. I knew from that first class I would practice for as long as I was able. I had never experienced such a total body workout strength, flexibility, balance, concentration ( mindfulness) and finally relaxation. BUT the part that fascinated me the most was my journey home in the car, I felt calm, benevolent and deeply happy. I had never had this happen after my running, walking, aerobics, tennis, skiing etc. I needed to understand why this had happened so for the past 16 years I have researched the science of yoga, I have practiced yoga and I teach yoga, I continue to learn.
